I never understood how the song "Graduation" by Vitamin C can be so overkilled in recent times. Its almost legendary: hands-up all who had never been through a ceremony with that song playing in the background and some particular group standing on the stage and holding hands or huddling together, swaying left and right to music. EVERYONE knows the bloody lyrics, perhaps better than the national anthem. Some will be crying, a few will be thinking "what the F**K". Then there is almost an unwritten rule that if you cry, you prove yourself to love that particular organisation/institution more than someone who doesn't. The song will then trail off to a neverending repeat of the chorus, allowing for the people to hug and say how they'll "always remember each other and never forget the times spent together". take note: WHY DO THEY HAVE TO REMEMBER EACH OTHER IF THEY EVEN BOTHER TO KEEP IN CONTACT!!!!
But nevermind that. so the song will go on and on, probably because some geeky fellow copied the repeated chorus and made a seamless edit, such that the song will go on until the cue is given to cut it. (usually the one who can still control himself/herself well enough to know when to cut the proceedings to prevent time spill is someone of importance, probably the president or chariman. Hmm. so..... they don't love their club. i see.) Suddenly, the music is brought to an end abruptly by some lousy AV person who do not know how to slowly lower the volume. And there's a strange awkwardness in the air, because it's almost as if no one is allowed to cry without Graduation playing. The anti-climax obvious to the more cynical ones in the crowd.
Not that i hate the song or am some unfeeling bastard. i'm jus making a blogpost here. Ever wondered? "What did the world listen to for such occasions prior to 1999? (release year of Graduation) or was it really true that in the past people parted or graduated without emotions?" For those born in 1986, you'll probably think that this song has been there forever since 1999 is the year we got into secondary schools and secondary school classmates LOVED this song. (when we were in primary school, all we had were Backside Boys. The more appreciative ones would listen to Savage Garden, maybe. Or Fool's Garden --> remember lemon tree?) But i really pity those who are a little younger than us. They probably would have suffered Vitamin C's Graduation from primary school all the way to Junior College. But i pity those STILL in primary or secondary school more - they are pathetic - all they have for "good music" is some "ella-ella-ella" rubbish, following the proliferation of fake R&B in the 21st century. (ask rebecca toh what is REALLY R&B. She'll tell u Celine Dion or Toni Braxton) Gosh, Lemon Tree is still THE good old song. I'm sorry its on auto-play. if u dun like it just click it away)
