on cool blogging

once upon a time, blogging was in HTML format. using altervista or some other hosts. people who keep blogs, or WEBLOGS, were considered COOL.

then the proliferation.

now, it is impossible to overstate the distance between coolness and blogging. they're as far off from each other as i could imagine. coolness is subjective, but it almost always entails being the laid-back, being oneself, fulfilling every distorted image or goal that one could possibly associate with being popular. thats coolness loosely defined. blogging is becoming the state of TRYing to be cool, but more often than not, blogger (aka cool-wannabes) are left wanting. blogging is boring, a nonsensical waste of time - although not so much as "warcraft" - and really is nothing more than ranting mixed together with some useless two cents worth that any other individual could easily think up of himself. it is of no great..... knowledge advancement. It merely makes the writer feel good about himself, that he/she can come up with a half-decent "article" of sorts, and hopefully readers be impressed and awed, myself guilty as charged. bloggers are NOT cool, even if they spam 100 photos a months showing how exciting their life is. (unless you're like xiaue and make a living out of blogging)

but recently there has been a tilt in .... being. bloggers, having undergone the initial stage of mass imitation of each other and unanswered rants, have seemingly taken up alternative styles. only NOW have bloggers started to use their blogs to reflect the most important parts of their lives and put it down in the most plain languages. gone were the days when girls said "why is the sky always so dark whenever you're not around... i felt a knife jabbed right through me when i saw you holding that girl's hand. i thought we were forever blah blah blah..." these days, you read more of REAL thoughts. in a similar situation, you would most likely see that everything has had their glossed removed. as such:
"i always knew you were a bastard from the way u look at girls whenever we're out together. and by the way, if you're reading this, the bitch you're with looks like jack black and scooby doo combined. and miss bitch? if you're reading this? you look like the fishball jack black and scooby doo shared. i never trusted in fidelity ANYWAY. he'll cheat on you and elope with miss fishcake."

apart from the expletives and the Jack Blacks, its really getting very personal. very real. i know blogging isnt cool. i know i am not cool. but when u put it together i become a cool blogger. beats me why too. a year or so ago, i used to blog about stuff that NO ONE used to blog about, like how liverpool loses every single game, and how we're so going to win the champions league because the football god spoke to me while i was doing my econs tutorials. THIS was nonsense at that time, (not because liverpool didnt win it in the end, but rather) because NO ONE EVER TOUCHES SOCCER in their blogs!! its almost like its a grand unified consensus, that soccer and uncouth hobbies are NOT to be included in cutesy cutesy blogs!! this, despite most guys talking about soccer half the time they're not talking about girls. no one DARES to openly blog about their allegiance with the team they support, bar soccer bloggers who end up writing online columns, bar moi.

then there was the change. suddenly, EVERYONE is talking abt manicure, food they can cook, lousy shopping (initially it was always only good shopping), and SOCCER! i noticed a few of my cooler blogger friends are blogging abt soccer!!!!! its either 1. EPL has become so popular everyone can no longer stop talking about it, or 2. liverpool is getting so good, those who always thought only liverpool supporters blog soccer are hoping blogging would help their team, or 3. it is COOL to blog soccer because it IS the very thing that many ppl watches week-in week-out. haha.. suddenly i feel like a cool pioneer.

the gap between coolness and blogging isnt so great afterall. when everyone starts shedding that facade of completeness, or their purple prose and substitute it with more powerful HOKKIEN terms if need be; when everyone decides to be true to themselves instead of their persona and stop hoping to be the next belle de jour; when everyone starts slamming other people and not be afraid of backlashes - THATS when coolness and blogging can once again become one.
